Bike Transportation & Climate Ride with DEEP Commissioner
Join the Farmington Canal Rail to Trail Association, the Safe Streets Coalition of New Haven, and the Bradley Street Bicycle Co-op Friday, October 8th at 1:30 pm as they host an 8-mile bike ride with Department of Energy & Environmental Protection Commissioner, Katie Dykes! Commissioner Dykes will share an update on the climate crisis in Connecticut and explain how climate policy and legislation can benefit the cycling community. She will also highlight findings from the latest Connecticut Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Inventory and share how cyclists can make a tangible impact in reducing greenhouse gasses. We will then head out on a bike ride up the Farmington Canal Trail. This is a “no-drop” ride, the pace will be slow, no one will be left behind.
The 8-mile ride will start at Scantlebury Park (139 Ashmun St, New Haven), and end at College Woods Park (41 Cold Spring St, New Haven). You can find the route here! Plan to be at the start by 1:30 pm Friday, October 8th for the Commissioner’s remarks and to join the bike ride to follow. The rain date and time are Friday, October 22nd, 10:00 am. For questions, please email kai@bsbc.co.
Bikes vs Cars Documentary Screening
The documentary Bikes vs Cars depicts a global crisis that we all deep down know we need to talk about: climate, earth's resources, cities where the entire surface is consumed by the car. An ever-growing, dirty, noisy traffic chaos.
The bike is a great tool for change, but the powerful interests who gain from the private car invest billions each year on lobbying and advertising to protect their business. In the film we meet activists and thinkers who are fighting for better cities, who refuse to stop riding despite the increasing number killed in traffic.
Join us to watch Bikes vs Cars, and learn how we can use the bike as a tool for change in our very own city!
